BA1a Insects - Silhouettes

Our brief was to create an insect, a subject I haven't looked at very much in the past. We were told to start with silhouettes, so the first thing I decided to do was experiment with using different pencil sizes on basic sketchbook paper.

I decided that if I had to draw traditionally, it would be easier to use the thicker pencils such as B4 and upwards. I wanted to compare drawing silhouettes on paper to doing it digitally, but I knew quite quickly into the sketching that it would be far easier and better do it all digitally due to being able to use bigger brushes and using features like the pen sensitivity. Some of the designs however I think went quite well, but I feel as if i did not get to do the quick sketching technique of silhouettes that I could do digitally, and may have unconsciously drawn out their basic shapes before hand.

I thus decided to move to digital and start doing proper silhouettes. These were more fun to create, as you had more freedom of movement and they weren't planned.
I found that I enjoyed drawing these a lot more then the traditional drawings, and felt that there were more that I could work further on. These were drawn on Photoshop CC with a basic brush.
