BA3a - Week 8 Summary

This week I started working in more detail on the fish pet model sheet.

I'm having some difficulties with the colour scheme however so it's taking me longer than expected to reach this level. My original design is orange and a deep purple for the eye bubbles, so I may revisit it and see what issues I had with it. I also feel that the fish inside the bubbles may be too detailed, as I used koi fish as reference for the current fish inside.  It may work better with less realistic fish designs, so I will try it out.

I had a two slide Powerpoint presentation showing the work we've achieved so far and talking about what we've had to for example cut from the project in order to finish it on time. Below is my presentation.

I wanted to have mostly photos of my work on the presentation because I wanted to show each stage of my process with making a creature. I got feedback on my time management, as well as some of the designs I had on display. I was told that my boss had a pose that made it look like he was going to tip over, so I would do best to move the legs and body position. The colour scheme I used with the fish was also questioned as I had changed it from the purple and orange to this blue, so I will definitely revisit the purple and try and make it work.

The tasks this week were separated into two parts. The first one we were given some concept art/photos that we had to analyse the values of. We had to identify the foreground, middleground and background, and look at how the colours worked in the pieces. Below is my take on three pieces I chose to work with.

The second task was to create an environment using all of the elements listed.

Below is what I created from the brief, with the thumbnails I sketched before making the final image.

I think with this piece I felt very rushed, as the deadline was early in the morning the next day and the dissertation draft deadline was also that evening so I ended up panicking slightly and finishing it as quick as I could. I didn't use colour as I felt it would force me to think about what I learnt from the value studies we did before. I feel like with more time I could have created a better piece, but I like how it looks.

This week has been mostly about working on the dissertation draft, so that was more a focus and thus I didn't make as much work as I would have liked.
